Huskers Pep Rally

For you folks interested and in Nebraska, we're planning on going to Misty's in Havelock for a Huskers pep rally. Apparently is a pretty awesome time and we need to do it before they remodel the joint. Meet at Misty's at 6:00 pm Friday. Word.

Hotel Motel Holiday Inn

A couple things here.

1. We need to nail down the accomodations for the CU game. I'd recommend we get a hotel room for thursday and friday...and maybe saturday as well. It all depends what people's thanksgiving plans are. So all you people out west, holler back.

2. Hotel room for Ricky's wedding. Apparently we should have reserved a room months ago. Who's already done so? If you haven't yet, let's talk. Also, Rick and Les--what hotel should we get?

3. I've already reserved a huge suite with a deck for Murman's wedding. All are welcome to crash there. It's at the holiday inn right behind where the reception is at. It's pretty clutch.

4. Did Robert get that job at Wyoming U?

FREE Tacos

Good news. If any player hits a home run to left field the entire nation can get a free taco from Taco Bell. Happy Hitting.

New Game Prediction--Go kickers!

Alright, the weather report is in, and it's going to be rainy, cold, and probably windy. Which means, offenses are going to be stifled not only by eachothers defenses, but now by the elements. So here's what I think. It's going to come down to special teams. We have a better punter, which means, givin all else equal, we should win the field position battle. Then, it comes down to the place kickers. Again, we are superior in this area as well.

I think it comes down to field goals. Congdon has a big game, and we win, 16-14. You can print that shit.

Also, if you've got an extra minute, stop by Heavysoul and wish Mike Shearer a congratulations on his nupituals this evening.

Have a good weekend.

New Years 2K7 - Cotton Bowl

Speculation of NU's finish led me to ESPN.com where both bowl projection gurus, Ivan Maisel and Mark Schlabach, picked Nebraska to play in the AT&T Cotton Bowl on January 1 in Dallas, Texas. In an era when future plans must be made far ahead of time, I encourage consideration of a Dallas/Ft. Worth New Years celebration given the Huskers 2nd place finish in the Big 12. For those of you wondering, yes, there is a parade the day before. Tim Can you HEAR ME???

The Big 12 is horrible.

Face it. Look at the teams, and what they have done. They're a miserably conference right now. We're losing Oklahoma...they lose their qb next year, Peterson is gone, they're out of the picture. Two teams keeping it afloat, Texas in the south, and Husker Nation in the North. Saturday they battle. I'm curious, is the front 7 of NE defense enough? Texas has a shakey pass defense, but has countless athleticism throughout their offense.
Who will it be this week?
Does the winner take the Big 12?

Hotels

This is a gameday weekend, and also a holiday weekend. So with that in mind:

Embassy: $300/night
Holiday Downtown: $125/night
Holiday Express: $110/night (2 blocks from Jeff's)
Microtel (North Lincoln): $90/night
Super 8: $65/night
Chase suites: $160/night (for a 2 bedroom w/kitchen suite)

With that said, I vote we try to keep it close to Downtown, so, My vote is either Holiday Inn downtown, or Express next to Jeff's. Super 8 and the Microtel are not far either, but not walking distance.

We need to get on this, because each of these places only have a handful of rooms left. So holler back. And be sure to mention #of people.

CU @ NU

We should probably get the ball rolling a bit on the CU/NU game in Lincoln. Who is all planning on coming? Should we try to get a hotel room, to relieve Murman from the possibilty of getting a second disorderly houshold? The topic is officially open for discussion.

And Walz, I'm not having very good luck finding people who want to part with their Texas tickets. But I'll keep trying.

Wang chung!

Winner Defined: Lawrence Phillips

Husker Nation shook its collective head this week as one of their favorite old running backs screwed up again.

I'm not sure if anyone besides me caught this, but the greatest running back to never be is upto his old tricks. This even makes Mo' Clarett seem like a winner. L.P. is pictured right in his mug shot for a conviction that may lock him up for 20 years.

Apparently our favorite running back from the mid 90's was losing in a pick-up game of football to some teenagers and became angry.

The first question you should ask is "why is a 30 something ex college and professional football player playing pickup with teenagers?" The second question you should ask is "why did L.P. decide to run them over with his car?"

read below for the full article. good grief.

CP+B opening office in Boulder

I've always wondered why there weren't any National Award-Winning Advertising Agencies in Denver. Well, scratch that. Cripin Porter + Bogusky, a Miami-based ad agency who has pretty much swept all the adverting awards in the last 3-4 years, is opening their second office in Boulder.

From boulderrealty.blogspot.com:

"Looks like another young, successful company is making tracks to Boulder. Recognizing that in the world of business today, attracting and retaining talent is a competitive advantage, marketing firm Crispin Porter + Bogusky has announced intentions to open up shop locally...CPB is the upstart marketing firm behind recent ad campaigns for the MINI Cooper, Burger King, Compass Bank, and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Here's an industry blogger's point of view on CPB. Meanwhile, Business 2.0 thinks CPB is the most buzzed-about agency in the advertising world, calling recent company's efforts "brilliant and edgy"."

So, my idea of starting the first world-class Denver agency is no more. Damn.

design.

those of you in 177 land who are far nearer the creative end of design than i (jimi, b, jp, trl to name a few) will appreciate this month's Fast Company "masters of design" as much if not more than i. it takes a tour of business as usual vs. business by creativity and design and the outlooks of superstars in advertising and product design and the products they create. the articles are inspiring and intriguing. they cause me to wonder at the outcome of a weekend focused as intensely on creating concepts and pieces to comment on our world in a varied host of available media in a collaborative experiment as one playing games and drinking beer at FFF. to rephrase: i wonder what would happen if we all created and dreamed with as much reckless fervor as we recreate?

"That is unacceptable." - W

Over the weekend North Korea has claimed to have tested a nuclear weapon (WMD) underground. Various independent geological scientists support this claim through agreement of an unnatural spike in seismic activity at roughly the claimed time of detonation.

If the test is confirmed, North Korea would be the ninth country known to have nuclear weapons, along with the United States, Russia, France, China, Britain, India, Pakistan and Israel.

The biggest concerns are that North Korea will refine their design to be small enough to attach it to a long range rocket, or that information on how to build and produce such weapons will be proliferated to other questionable nations or factions.

North Korea seems simply to want to be taken seriously and gives the excuse of wanting to be able to defend itself against developed nations that possess such weapons. At least Iran claims to want cheap nuclear power as a front for its plausible nuclear weapons program.

Who thinks that the U.N. should be allowed to decide which countries are able to possess what weapons? Just because the 8 countries that already have it want to keep it that way does not seem right. However, it will be a different cold war when every terrorist group and rogue country has a couple nukes in their pocket. Imagine if Hugo "Bush is the Devil" Chavez had one. The relevancy of the U.N. is on the line. Once a collection of nations opposed to diplomacy and the collection of developed countries bands together a multinational cold war will be upon us.

The parental "do as I say not as I do" approach from the 8 nuke possessing nations only seems to torment and motivate the "have nots."

Real estate in North Dakota should become more popular as the value of not being a target increases in the near future...

What a week for new Music

Jet, Beck, the Killers...and an interting release from John Popper, called the John Popper Project, which features DJ Logic. I previewed a few songs and it sounds pretty good. A bluesey base with some poppy-placed DJ cuts. Like I said, it's interesting.

Great American Blackout

The results were in. The judges...luckiest folk on earth. The samplers, uneducated booze funnels. Another great year with the nations best beer, at the Great American Beer Festival, held at the Colorado Convention Center. An unlikely place to have the most fun per sq. in. I raise this event up on a golden social pedestal every year. There's a few good reasons for that. 1400 actually. I probably enjoyed 150, I remember 7. I blame it on sloppy pours from equally intoxicated volunteers. I was supposed to be getting an ounce per sample. 2-3 ounces each is what I recieved. Not my fault. Some great trends in up and coming beer, whiskey/wine cask aging! Loved it, in fact Annheiser Busch is releasing their version of mass produced "small batch" beers as a whiskey cask aged macro. (They also released a blueberry beer, which angered me.)
Fort Collins' own New Belgium lived up to their trendy reputation by pushing a new 'organic wheat' dubbed, 'Mothership Wit'. If you've had organic beers before you know how bad they are. This wheat beer, tremendous. They also toted such heavy hitters as 'Saison' (one of my favorite beers ever, wine yeast beer at its finest), and '2 degrees below', a full-bodied ale aged at, well, 2 degrees below freezing.
Sierra Nevada unleashed a great whiskey beer. The brewer was there so I didn't get over-poured, I left.
Unfortunatly I can't recall where this beer was from, but a midwest state's brewer brought a new sorghum beer, which was surprisingly, or not so, delicious.
I enjoyed flavored meeds (honey-wine for sissies) of apricot, boysenbeer, et. al.
PBR, if you haven't attended, puts on the best show, per trade show restrictions. Giving away wild promo gear, snowboards, hangovers.
My favorite beer, and I hate to admit it, is from Boulder, CO. It took until I walked away to realize this beer's origins, or else I may have spat it out. 'Mountain Sun Brewery' had a gold medal winning 'Hummingbird Ale' that seemed to contain an entire spice rack. However you can only get their beers at their brewery, so as I told their brewer, "I probably won't ever have it again".
It didn't let me down, this fest. Perhaps we should consider lining future Fall Fun Fest's up with this event. But you wouldn't be able to legally drive for a few days is the foreseeable problem. Holla.
